Capensis is a social club for the over fifties. It draws its membership mainly from Yzerfontein and Darling but not exclusively so, as it also has had members who hail from Malmesbury, Hopefield, Durbanville and Melkbosstrand. Annual membership fees are R30 for the main member and R15 for a spouse, whilst those over 80 only pay R5 per person.

Meetings are held every second Wednesday in the month, usually at the Presbyterian Church Hall in Darling. They normally start with a talk followed by a social tea provided by the members. The talks cover a wide variety of subjects from “Crop Circles” to “Petroglyphs” and “Egypt” to “Mexico”.

Outings are arranged for the fourth Wednesday. ”Bring and Braais” are mandatory, with regular locations being at Plankiesbaai and Yzerfontein, whilst visits have also been arranged, recently, to the Cape Town Stadium, Jonkershoek and the Castle. Other regular activities also include a “Christmas in July” weekend and a traditional Christmas luncheon in November.

The Club Motto says it all ” If it’s not fun, why do it? ”
